Conclusion
-Through our investigation, my group found out that our school had two main sustainability problems which is the improper management of trash and unnecessary electricity use. We found out that most students leave their trash around, because of their lack of care, or they couldn’t find the trash can. We also found out through interviews with school staff that some teachers turn off the lights before leaving, while some lights are left on and are later turned off by security at night.
- Our data showed that a classroom with approximately 25–30 students produces around 0.5–1 trash can, or 5.67–6.08 kg, of waste per day, and it is ofte piled up, or scattered around.
- On these evidence, we propose a solution to provide different types of trash can (Compost, Recycle, and waste) so that the waste can be managed, separated and organized properly which can make the process of recycling easier.
- Another solution that we considered is using solar panels as a renewable energy source to replace the energy from fossil fuels, coals, oil and natural gas needed to generate electricity.
- this investigation, we learned that small everyday actions can have a larger environmental impact to their surroundings when they happen repeatedly, for example, human activities have been the main driver of the cause of global warming since the 1800s. Properly managing waste can reduce unnecessary waste and improve the school environment, while saving electricity can reduce unnecessary energy consumption. These changes can help make our school a more sustainable place.
